the LCS continues

So how hot are the Rockies, really? They have won two more games over the weekend, one in Arizona and the other at home. Winners of 20 out of their last 21 games, the Rockies join the elite teams of MLB history to pull off such a streak during any course of the season. The A’s had such a streak in 2001, as well as the 1977 Kansas City Royals. We then have to go back fifty more years to find the Yankees, who pulled off such a winning streak in 1947 and 1953. And the last National League to win that many games in 21 tries? The 1936 Giants. Pretty crazy.

Sunday’s hero for the Rockies was Yorvit Torrealba, who punched out a game-winning three run homer. He said, “You know what, man? It’s crazy. I don’t really have words to say because it’s been like this every night. I can probably say this to somebody in 70 years and they won’t believe it. Every night, it’s been somebody else different. Either the starting pitcher, or the bullpen, or the hitters. It’s amazing. I don’t know what else you can say. No matter how hard you try to explain, you won’t be able to explain.” And I will agree – it’s really hard to explain, but somehow the Rockies are doing it, so more power to them. Now the only thing that’s missing is the sweep of the Diamondbacks.

In the ALCS, things are a bit more interesting as the series is tied 1-1. The Indians climbed back in game two, escaping a blown lead, then surging back in the 11th inning to score 7 runs. Pretty wild!
