Free Agency Galore

Friday saw five more players file for free agency, bringing the total in MLB to 133. These five players are: Josh Fogg (who won game 3 of the NLCS), Keith Foulke (who is essentially retired), Mike Matheny (also retired), Rob Mackowiak (whose 2008 option was declined by the San Diego Padres), and Brett Tomko (who went 4-12 in his split between Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres in 2007).Notable players who aren’t on the market anymore are Bobby Abreu, who had a $16 million option exercised by the Yankees. Tim Wakefield from the Red Sox was held over for $4 million. Additionally, Julian Tavarez (who was inactive all of the 2007 postseason), had his $3.85 million option exercised by the Red Sox.
