Lowell Still Unclear

The Boston Globe updated the negotiating status of free agent third baseman Mike Lowell. The initial indication is that the New York Yankees are no longer pursuing Lowell to play first base.

The Globe, citing a television source, said the Yankees appear willing to cycle between Jason Giambi and Shelly Duncan to play first base.

The new suitor appears to be the Los Angeles Dodgers. They are after Lowell because the Florida Marlins are reportedly seeking three high-level prospects for Miguel Cabrera.

Of course, one option for Lowell is to stay with the Red Sox. The Red Sox have a 3-year offer on the table in the $36-$39 million range.  Curt Schilling certainly wants Lowell to stay with the Red Sox. So do millions of fans. I am not sure what Lowell doesn’t like in Boston. Maybe he’s just greedy and wants a more lucrative contract from any team.
